A Message from the Head Coach, Tracy McCartney
Welcome! Returning and new swimmers!
Welcome back to another season of Marlins swimming! Heading into the upcoming season I want to remind everyone of what a great season we had last year. What a great group of individuals we have to work with. Leadership, talent and the desire to achieve is the character traits that many of our swimmers aspire to.
Our key Team meets this year will be Team Challenge, Dave Kensit Regional A Champs, Fred Ram Regional B Champs, Jeno Tyhiany Long Course A Champs and the Gatineau Invitational. Please check the meet schedule and mark those dates on your calendar. Team Challenge is a selection process, Provincials, Nationals, Gatineau, Kensit and Tyhiany have qualifying standards. Make sure you check with your coach for the standards and set up your goals! Fred Rams is for 14 and under swimmers only and has a de-qualifying standard so again you need to keep communicating with your coach to see where you are most likely to attend those championship meets. Let’s not forget those individual championship meets, Festival, Provincials, Eastern Canadians, Nationals and Internationals. The NEOR development meets are meets that everyone can attend and are the meets that will track your progress towards your goals! One major change in the scheduling of the meets is that Team Champs has been renamed to Team Challenge, stay tuned to see the criteria of how many swimmers each team will be able to bring.
Swimming Canada also has been making changes to their Nationals meets; Eastern Cup has been moved from February to April, from SC to LC. Age Group Nationals will now be Canadian Junior Nationals. Standards for these meets will most likely be quite a bit faster than last year.
Swim Ontario standards follow the international four year circuit, changing their standards after every Olympic Games. The new standards will be posted this fall.
I would like to welcome back Kelly Baker, Courtney Lapointe, Sheri Ginglo and Angie Bernier to the coaching staff. Chancy Trottier will start her career as the Jr. Development coach this season, welcome Chancy. Last season was a huge success! I look forward to having another great year with everyone.
